“The Precious Gem”

Formally known as Banteay Srei, this temple is about an hour or so away from the main temples and way smaller in comparison but that does not take away from the sheer beauty of this temple dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva.  It’s built mostly of red sandstone which makes for a gorgeous canvas for the immensely detailed and intricate carvings that adorn the temple, earning the title of “precious gem” or “jewel of Khmer art”.  They say that it’s unlikely that men built this temple because of the incredible detail of the carvings 🙂  We got there first thing in the morning and were able to explore with about 2 other people.  Probably the most underrated temple in the city of Angkor.
